Please select from the list below: CURRENT SUBMISSIONS: Celebrity: Liam Neeson and Miranda Richardson One summer back in the mid 80's I was fortunate
to work (well paid and well fed for a nineteen year old in rural North
Yorkshire at the time) as an extra in a movie being made locally, "The
Innocent" starring young newcomers Liam Neeson and Miranda Richardson,
both of whom stayed next door to my home in Settle at the Golden Lion Hotel
public bar for 2 weeks during filming. Most nights would culminate in drunken
cavortings in the bar. Nothing sensational to reveal if that's what you
were hoping for, I just wanted to say they were both genuinely cool sorts.
Good fun was had by all involved and those times are fondly remembered
now particularly as their careers have grown so vastly since. I went to the US for a holiday about 2 years ago. There I visited a famous Indian restaurant near the White House. There ... about 2 tables away was sitting none other than Chelsea Clinton! She was pondering over what to order. I went up to her and asked for her autograph. Surprised, she obliged and then sensing I was from India, she asked for my suggestion on what to eat. I suggested "mirchi masala" (a spicy, hot curry). A few minutes into eating, her eyes started watering and she gulped gallons of water. I was taken by surprise when 2 men (secret service men, I guess), seized me. But the nice girl that she is came to my rescue. - Saravan G. Madras, India I went to high school in North Toronto with actor John Candy. It was a private Catholic school, and the teachers were really strict. I guess it's no real surprise, but John was the class clown, and he was always getting into trouble with his joking around. Once, he made fun of our history teacher, who charged after John with his pointer stick. John (who was pretty big back then too) ran so fast and so hard (he was looking over his shoulder) that he broke right through a wooden railing and fell down a short flight of stairs. The teacher then asked John if he thought his gag was still funny. After John became famous, I ran into him years later at a small grocery store near where his mom and dad lived. He still remembered me and was really kind to everyone in the store. He never forgot his roots. When I heard he died while driving home one day I started crying. Everyone who knew John had great affection for him. - Jim DelVecchio, Brampton, Ontario I was a cheerleader with Cameron Diaz back in
the 80s. She was always really nice and the only thing I didn't like about
her was that all the guys adored her and forgot about the rest of us when
she was around. Oh yeah, she was also a little clumsy at times for a cheerleader. Although I never knew her, my husband went out with Shania Twain before she became famous and we started going out.He says she was great from the waist up but had really big legs, which may explain why you never she her in skirts or dresses. He swears he dumped her the day he met me and saw me in a short mini skirt. - Hot L. Celebrities: Kevin Costner My best friend in high school was dating Kevin
Costner's girlfriend's (soon to be wife) little brother. Take a minute
to map that one out! Anyway, Cindy and Kevin were usually making out in
the living room begging us to GET OUT! At the time, I didn't think he was
anything special! I went to high school in Long Island, New York. Several famous alumni were among my friends and classmates: 1) Tim Somer, who has worked doing MTV news and was the man who brought Hootie and the Blowfish to A&M records, he and I used to trade baseball cards in his basement. 2) Director R.J. Cutler, was older, had a driver's license, and drove me to my driver's Ed class each week 3) Seth Swirsky, author and song writer, is the older brother of song writer and best friend, David Swirsky 4) Helen Slater, although doesn't admit it, went to my school for a short time. I remember very well her audition for Maria in Sound of Music (yep, she got the part). 5) Agent Rory Rosegarten whose clients has ranged from Capt. Lou Albano, Comedian Robert Klein and now Ray Romano of Everyone Loves Raymond fame. - Ira Goldwyn - West Haven, CT I used to play tennis with Pete Sampras in junior high school at the local tennis club in Palos Verdes. He was a short kid growing up, a head smaller than everyone else. Needless to say, he did not have the power he has now, but he definitely was a very consistent, accurate and aggressive player. I should have stuck with tennis......oh well. I wish him continued success. SG - Menlo Park, CA When I was 18, I was dating a guy whose best friend
was Gene Kelly's son Tim. My boyfriend took me over to their house a couple
of times, where of course I met Gene Kelly. What a sweet unassuming man!
He took the time to talk to me and asked me if I'd like a drink. I had
never had a "mixed" drink and the only one I could think of was
a screwdriver. So the second time I went there he gave me a big hello,
went into the kitchen and came back with my "favorite" drink
- a screwdriver. He remembered! I went out with Gwenyth Paltrow before she became famous. She was a really nice girl, but I found her a little plain. Now I can't believe I dumped this mega star. If only I could go back in time. - John, New York I knew Lisa Kudrow (Friends) from elementary school through high school. She was always friendly, and very funny! No dirt to tell here. I even have her autograph in my sixth grade graduation autograph book, and she was funny then! My sister was in brownies with Cindy Margolis. She's older than she said she is. (only by a couple of years though). -Anonymous -Tarzana, CA I met Leonardo DiCaprio at a party during my freshman year in college (1992). Incidently, the party happened to be for Alyson Hannigan (we went to the same HS). Anyhow, I was about to go up to him when I listened to him talk... geez! He was so full of himself! He wasn't even famous then! It made me so sick that I've disliked him since then. What a waste! - Claudia, Valley Village - CA I knew LeAnn Rimes before she was famous. Her mom's best friend lives right behind me and when ever she came here to visit (which was every summer) we used to play together. She always swore she was going to be on Star Search and become a big star. She was also a little stuck up when she was little, but she still looked the same. I guess she was right. She did turn out to be a big star. - Katie, Long Island - NY Back before Stallone became famous I had a problem with him in a bar one day. I didn't know the guy at all and he starts hitting on the girl I'm with like I'm not there. I tell him to get lost and he just winks at me and keeps chatting up my date. So I stand up and while I'm getting out from behind the table he slugged me and took off. Next time I saw the guy was when I saw Rocky 1. My claim to fame is being sucker punched by Rocky Balboa. - Marvin, New York Hudson Liecke, who in high school was Heidi now plays Callisto on Xena. Well, we were friends in 10th grade. She used to go to the local teen dance club and do the lip sync contests as Madonna. She was also a basketball cheerleader, but not too popular. - Anne, Oceanside - CA I don't know if you count a would-be assassin as a "celebrity", but in 4th grade in Dallas, Texas, I lost an election for homeroom president to John Hinckley, Jr. who 16 years later shot at then-President Ronald Reagan. He was popular because he was very good-looking and a very good basketball player, but he was spacy and had no close friends. His photo is 10 faces from mine in the 7th grade yearbook. When I told my Dad, he told me that he had been in the same World War II Navy Platoon as Watergate burglar H.R.Haldeman, and he had a photo of the whole Navy platoon and was only 2 faces from Haldeman. He didn't have anything to say about what Haldeman was like. A few years later I saw Senator George McGovern interviewed on TV, and he said to always keep in mind there are worse things than losing an election, since he lost in a landslide running for President, but he wouldn't want to exchange places with the man who won (Nixon). I felt I knew what he meant and so I have something in common with the Senator. - Jonathan - Palo Alto, CA
I went to high school with Madonna and remember her in gym class. She really had a lot of hair and I am not talking about her scalp. When some girls and I gently tried to suggest she do something about it she pushed one of my friends and then gave us the finger. She stormed off and never talked to us again. We were just trying to help. - Anonymous, New Jersey
Celebrity: Bill Clinton I was at a site called americanpresidents.com
and clicked on a banner for this site. I've never talked about my date
with Bill Clinton back in high school before, but figured fate was telling
me to do so when a site about the president led me here. Also, because
of all the bad press, I think people should know what Bill was like before.
I think we were both about 15 when he asked me out. He was so shy that
he barely got the words out. Then on the date he was pretty quiet until
I got him to do his Elvis impersonation. Then he loosened up and was one
of the sweetest and funniest young men I ever dated. But at the end of
the date he became real shy again and was just sort of fidgeting. But I
felt so comfortable that I leaned over and kissed him. We kissed for about
5 minutes and then stopped. He was a perfect gentleman. He walked to my
door kissed me on my cheek and walked off. But at the end of my walkway
he turned around and started singing "since my baby left me (Elvis
style!) because my family was moving away. I never went out with Bill again
but I sure would have. Celebrity: Michael
J. Fox My family was friends with Darryl Hannah's family before she became famous. She was very nice, but as a teenager liked to walk around the house partially or sometimes completely nude - sometimes even when her family had guests. - J.S., Chicago Before Leonardo DiCaprio was famous I met him at a commercial audition and we got to talking. Before I left he asked me out on a date. I turned him down because I thought he was geeky! - C.C., New York
As a kid I was friends with one of Tom Cruise's sisters. We didn't pay much attentiom to him then even though he was a cute kid, but once in a while when playing dress-up we would get Tom dressed up in dresses and put lots of makeup on him. Can you imagine dressing Tom Cruise up like a girl? I can because I have the pictures. But don't worry Tom - I would never embarass you. - T.
I went to summer camp with Billy Zane in Canada about 20 years ago. He was a really unusual, strange kid who wasn't terribly popular. About 2 years ago I saw Billy at the MTV Awards and said hi. He just walked on ignoring me. So I yelled Camp White Pine and he stopped, turned around, gave me the thumbs up and walked away. He hasn't changed much from the old days. - Camp Friend
Celebrity: Comedians (Tim Allen, Jim Carey, Bob Saget, Paul Reiser etc) I was a professional standup comic back in the 70's and my path crossed those of many current "big name" entertainers. I opened for Jim Carey at the Komedy Korner in Windsor, Canada when he was just 20. He did lots of impressions and slap stick, and was very nice off-stage. H e was very funny. Tim Allen started out in Detroit at the same red-neck bar I did. He was somewhat arrogant, did lots of dirty jokes, and when the comics held a strike to get paid at the Comedy Castle, he was the first to cross our picket line. Considering where he is today and where I am, I now feel I should have joined him! Also, worked with Dave Coulier, Bob Saget, and Paul Riser - all of whom were decent guys offstage. Mike MacDonald, out of Canada, was a jerk. I opened for him at Giggles in Sarasota, Florida and we both stayed at a "comedy condo." - Stu, St Louis, MO
